Good morning, and happy Tuesday! Across the country, cities are converting downtown neighborhoods that became ghost towns during the pandemic into housing complexes, paving the way for more condos and apartments. While we value our outdoor space, the idea of living in a sweet industrial loft downtown does sound kind of appealing. Reply to this email and let us know what you think of this trend! Top TipsCNN & Fox shakeupNews anchors Don Lemon and Tucker Carlson each parted ways with their respective networks CNN and Fox News yesterday. In a statement, Fox said that Carlson’s last program of his show Tucker Carlson Tonight was Friday, April 21st. Per Fox’s statement, Carlson’s primetime slot will now be hosted by a series of interim hosts until the network finds a permanent replacement. Shortly after Fox delivered its announcement, Lemon–who most recently co-anchored the show CNN This Morning and has worked for CNN since 2006–said in a post to Twitter: “I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated from CNN. I am stunned.” Carlson’s departure came six days after Fox News settled a defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems, who accused Fox of claiming that the Denver-based company’s machines were used to rig the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Earlier this month, Lemon was accused of misogyny and sending threatening texts to a female colleague. |

Aaron Rodgers leaves PackersLongtime Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be traded to the New York Jets. In addition to getting the veteran quarterback, the Jets will receive the Packers’ first-round pick in Thursday’s 2023 NFL draft and a fifth-round pick as part of the trade. In return, the Packers will get the Jets’ 2023 first-round pick, a second-round pick, a sixth-round pick, and a conditional second-round pick in the 2024 draft that becomes a first-round pick if Rodgers takes part in at least two-thirds of the team’s plays this season, per sources familiar with the matter. Green Bay drafted Rodgers in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft. Throughout his 18-season career with the Packers, he earned four MVPs, one Super Bowl championship title, made 10 Pro Bowl teams, and earned All-Pro honors four times. His career record sits at 147-75-1 while throwing for 59,055 yards and 475 touchdowns. |

Ed Sheeran on trialA trial to determine whether Ed Sheeran violated copyright infringement law in his 2014 song “Thinking Out Loud” kicked off yesterday with jury selection. The lawsuit was filed by the heirs of Ed Townsend, who penned the 1973 song “Let’s Get It On” alongside Marvin Gaye. Townsend’s heirs accused Sheeran of copying the song and claimed they are owed backpay in royalties. Sheeran’s attorneys claim the songs’ similarities are indicative only of the foundations of popular music, saying in a court filing that “the two songs share versions of a similar and unprotectable chord progression” used in the majority of modern pop songs. Sheeran’s trial comes five years after Marvin Gaye’s estate filed a similar lawsuit in 2013 alleging that Robin Thicke’s song “Blurred Lines” copied Gaye’s 1977 song “Got to Give It Up.” In that trial, the judge sided with the Gaye estate and ordered Thicke and his co-writer Pharrell Williams to pay compensatory damages. |
