Top TipsProtestors call for Gaza ceasefirePro-Palestinian protesters marched in New York, Washington, and other cities worldwide last weekend, calling for an immediate ceasefire as Israel continues to bomb Gaza nearly a month after Hamas’ first attack sparked the war. Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declined requests for a humanitarian pause in fighting. Gaza officials say close to 10K people have died in the enclave since the start of the war. Tens of thousands participated in the global protests, which also took place in Berlin, London, and Paris. On top of demonstrators calling for the U.S. to stop supporting Israel, reports surfaced of vandalism and graffiti deemed to be antisemitic at the Washington, D.C. protest. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas yesterday in the West Bank, signifying the Biden administration’s latest effort to ease civilian suffering in the Gaza Strip and to begin creating a post-conflict scenario for the territory. |

Hamburg hostage situationA hostage situation involving a young child at Hamburg Airport ended yesterday around 18 hours after a man drove his vehicle through the airport gates with his four-year-old daughter as a passenger. On Saturday night, the 35-year-old suspect–who is a Turkish citizen–drove his car into the area where aircraft are usually parked. According to local authorities, the man stopped the vehicle where a commercial Turkish Airlines flight full of passengers was preparing to take off. Everyone on board was evacuated safely. The man reportedly fired a weapon twice in the air and threw burning bottles from his vehicle before he surrendered. He was taken into custody, and his daughter was unharmed. While no injuries were reported, all flights in and out of the airport were disrupted by the incident. Operations have since resumed but there are significant delays. Per airport officials, a total of 286 flights with about 34.5K passengers had been scheduled for yesterday. |
