Tyre Nichols protests continueAfter Memphis police released footage of Tyre Nichols’ arrest, protests took place in several cities around the United States on Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday. The footage shows Nichols–a Black man and 29-year-old FedEx worker–attempting to flee a traffic stop and subsequently being beaten by five Memphis police officers, all of whom are Black. Nichols then died three days later. All five officers involved in the arrest were subsequently fired and charged with second-degree murder, assault, and kidnapping. The officers were members of Memphis PD’s SCORPION unit, which the Memphis Police Department announced in a statement posted to Twitter that it had permanently disbanded in the wake of the footage being released on Friday evening. Cities where protests unfolded include Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, New York City, Portland, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Memphis. Protests in Atlanta led to the calling of the National Guard, while demonstrations in other cities affected roadways and transit. |

Australian Open resultsSerbian tennis player Novak Djokovic earned his 10th Australian Open title after defeating Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas at Melbourne Park. Djokovic, 35, was unable to defend his Australian Open title last year after the country deported him over his Covid vaccination status. During this year’s presentation ceremony, he called the achievement “the biggest victory of my life.” Djokovic’s victory marks his 22nd Grand Slam title and ties him with Spain’s Rafael Nadal for the most Grand Slam titles ever. He also is the second man to earn more than 10 titles at a single slam event (the other is Nadal). On the women’s side, Belarusian-born Aryna Sabalenka beat Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in three sets to earn the championship title. Sabalenka is the first player competing under a neutral flag to secure a Grand Slam. Amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, tournament organizer Tennis Australia required Russian and Belarusian players to compete as neutrals. |

One is absorbed by surface tissues and cells, leading to optimized skin health, while the other (near-infrared) is invisible to the human eye, yet penetrates deeper into tissues for recovery and inflammation support. Get the benefits of both with Joovv’s patented, medical-grade red light therapy device. Tip News readers get a big $50 savings by using code “Tip” at checkout.
