Another train derails in Ohio

On Saturday, a non-passenger Norfolk Southern cargo train derailed in Springfield, Ohio.

20 of the train’s 212 cars reportedly derailed around 4:45 PM local time near State Route 41. Norfolk Southern said no one was injured and no hazardous materials were on board. The derailed cars included four tankers identified with non-hazardous materials. In a statement posted to Facebook, Clark County wrote that two of the four tankers “contained residual amounts of Diesel Exhaust Fluid and the other two tankers contained residual amounts of Polyacrylamide Water Solution.”

A shelter-in-place order was issued for residents living near the derailment site but was later lifted, with Clark County saying, “There is no indication of any injuries or risk to public health at this time.” Saturday’s incident comes one month after the February 3rd derailment of a train operated by Norfolk Southern in East Palestine, Ohio.

Floods in Malaysia

Over 41K people were forced to evacuate their homes in Malaysia after six states were hit by rain-induced floods amid the country’s monsoon season.

The southern state of Johor, which borders Singapore, is the hardest hit of the six affected states. Almost 40K people left their homes in Johor to seek refuge from rising water levels, while the other five states saw over 1K people evacuating. At least four individuals have lost their lives since Wednesday, according to local police, and Malaysia’s national disaster management agency said that more than 200 relief shelters have been set up for displaced people. However, relief efforts in Johor have reportedly been hampered by continued rain.

Malaysia’s weather consists of two monsoon regimes: the Southwest Monsoon which runs from late May to September, and the Northeast Monsoon from November to March. The country’s previous-worst flooding occurred in 2014 when about 118K people fled their homes.

Marine life treaty

Negotiators from more than 100 countries completed a United Nations treaty over the weekend to protect biodiversity in the world’s oceans.

Dubbed The High Seas Treaty, the agreement will create a new body to manage the conservation of ocean life and establish marine protected areas in waters outside of national boundaries. While the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea first came into force in 1994, an updated framework to protect marine life on the high seas hadn’t been reached despite more than 20 years’ worth of discussions.

The treaty is part of efforts to achieve the U.N. Biodiversity Conference’s recent pledge to protect 30% of the world’s water and land for conservation by the year 2030, an initiative known as the 30 by 30 goal. According to Greenpeace, 4.2M square miles of the world’s oceans must be protected annually until 2030 to meet the target.

Bring the spa home

Think of essential oils like “hyper-extracts” of botanicals. Distilled from a plant’s volatile oils (the most research-supported component), these potent healing liquids can be more effective than extracts, teas, lotions, or other products per ounce.

Lavender, oregano, peppermint oil, and more have become incredibly popular.

AromaTru changed the game on essential oil diffusers through a waterless technology, with:

  • No messy refilling water, or cleaning
  • No mold
  • No measuring drops
  • No accidentally getting oils on your hands

Put up to 4 essential oil bottles directly in the device to disperse without water! You won’t ever go back to water-based diffusers again.

AromaTru also allows you to set timing, duration, and intensity to your precise liking. Tip News readers get over 30% off this next-gen diffuser (and big discounts on organic oils too)!
