Atlanta PD facility attack

At least 20 people have been charged with domestic terrorism after demonstrators allegedly set fire to the construction site of a public safety training facility in Atlanta on Sunday.

In surveillance video footage uploaded to Facebook, dozens of masked demonstrators were seen throwing firecrackers and rocks toward officers, as well as setting fire to construction equipment. In a statement, police called the incident “a coordinated attack” on equipment and officers. Atlanta PD said “the agitators used the cover of a peaceful protest” to access the premises before they “changed into black clothing and entered the construction area.”

Dubbed “Cop City” by those who oppose its construction, the site reportedly would house a shooting range, a driving course to practice chases, and a “burn building” for firefighters to work on putting out fires. Atlanta PD notes that 35 people have been detained so far in connection to Sunday’s events and that protests are planned for the coming days.

US denies Djokovic

No. 1 world tennis player Novak Djokovic was denied entry into the United States due to his Covid-19 vaccination status.

Djokovic, 35, had requested a vaccine waiver but was reportedly denied by the Department of Homeland Security. The denial forced Djokovic to withdraw from the BNP Paribas Open, which starts tomorrow in Indian Wells, CA. Last year, Djokovic was forced to withdraw from the 2022 Australian Open after arriving in Melbourne, first having his visa canceled and then being deported out of the country. Djokovic also did not compete in the 2022 U.S. Open, in which Carlos Alcaraz of Spain took home the trophy.

The U.S. is set to end its Covid-19 emergency declaration on May 11th, which will allow foreign air travelers to enter the country without being vaccinated. Following Djokovic’s withdrawal, Georgian player Nikoloz Basilashvili has taken his place in the Indian Wells draw.

Toblerone loses its logo

Chocolate brand Toblerone will remove the Matterhorn mountain peak from its packaging when some of its production is moved from Switzerland to Slovakia.

The brand’s parent company, Mondelez, confirmed the labeling revamp. Per Mondelez, the image of the Matterhorn mountain will be replaced by a more generic summit, and the chocolate bar’s new logo will include its founder’s signature. The reason behind the change is Swiss legislation enacted in 2017 dictating that any food item marketing itself as being “made in Switzerland” must source at least 80% of its raw ingredients from the country. The law also covers the use of Swiss symbols, including those that indicate geographical territory in the country.

Theodor Tobler created Toblerone in the Swiss city of Bern in 1908. The chocolate bar’s pyramid shape was reportedly inspired by Tobler’s mountainous homeland and the Matterhorn in particular. According to the brand’s website, the Matterhorn debuted on Toblerone’s packaging in 1970.
