Former President Trump indicted

A grand jury in Manhattan yesterday voted to indict former President Donald Trump.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has been investigating Trump on the allegation that he violated campaign finance laws by reimbursing his former lawyer Michael Cohen for a $130K “hush money” payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels (real name Stephanie Clifford) to not speak about her relationship with Trump in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election. Bragg’s office said they would contact the former president’s attorneys to discuss his surrender to face an arraignment. In a statement, Trump called the indictment “political persecution and election interference at the highest level in history.”

The indictment has been filed under seal and is expected to be announced in the coming days, with the charges not publicly known as of last night. It marks the first time in U.S. history that a current or former president has faced criminal charges.

Army helicopter crash

Two HH-60 Black Hawk helicopters of the Army’s 101st Airborne Division collided during a training exercise in Trigg County, Kentucky.

The crash occurred at approximately 10 PM local time on Wednesday night, about 30 miles northwest of Fort Campbell. According to a statement from Army officials, all nine U.S. service members aboard the two helicopters lost their lives. Brigadier General John Lubas, deputy commanding general for operations of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), said during a press conference at Fort Campbell that no additional casualties or injuries were reported, as the two aircraft went down in an open field across from a residential area.

Last month, two people were killed when a Black Hawk helicopter operated by the Tennessee National Guard crashed during a training flight near Huntsville, Alabama. In 2018, two U.S. soldiers died when their Apache helicopter crashed in a training area of Fort Campbell.

NCAA Final Four

The Final Four teams in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament will play tonight at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, setting the stage for the championship game to cap March Madness 2023.

This year’s Final Four teams are UConn, Florida Atlantic University, San Diego State University, and the University of Miami. Only UConn has reached the Final Four stage previously. The official NCAA schedule shows that Florida Atlantic will face off against SDSU at 5:09 PM CT, while UConn will play Miami at 7:49 PM. The two prevailing teams will face off for the NCAA championship trophy on Monday, April 3rd.

This year, not a single top-three seed reached the Final Four for the first time since the tournament began seeding teams in 1979. As of last night, UConn is the betting favorite to clinch the title, followed by SDSU. Miami is third, and Flordia Atlantic is last.
