Top TipsFuneral home shootingOne man lost his life and three other people were hurt yesterday in a shooting outside a funeral home in Northeast Washington, D.C., according to local police. The incident occurred around 12:17 PM local time, while a funeral for a homicide victim who was killed at the end of March was letting out. According to D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee, the three individuals who were hurt suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Contee added that investigators believe the victims were targeted but weren’t yet sure why. As of last night, the suspect has not yet been identified. Yesterday’s shooting in D.C. comes one day after a shooting at an Old National Bank location in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, that was carried out by a 25-year-old former bank employee. In the Louisville shooting, five people died and eight others were hospitalized. |

Twitter becomes X CorpTwitter Inc. has officially merged into X Corp., a privately held company under X Holdings Company, according to a court filing. According to a photo of the document, the filing reads: “Twitter Inc. has been merged into X Corp. and no longer exists.” The filing adds that X Corp is incorporated in Nevada with its principal place of business in San Francisco, California. Prior to Elon Musk’s private acquisition of Twitter–which was finalized on October 27th, 2022–the Tesla and SpaceX CEO said that purchasing the platform was “an accelerant to creating X, the everything app.” Musk has previously referred to the potential “X” app as something that could provide an all-encompassing functionality similar to how WeChat operates in China. Chinese citizens use WeChat to pay bills, buy public transport tickets, shop for groceries, and more. It is unclear whether the merger will have any immediate effect on Twitter’s app or service. |

Colorado River water cutsFederal government officials proposed a plan to cut water allotments to Western states if the states don’t reach a water-sharing agreement to combat dwindling water levels in the Colorado River. The involved states have been locked in negotiations for months. If a deal isn’t reached, the Department of the Interior said it would either impose water cuts according to the water-rights priority system or evenly across the board. Cuts based on the priority system would mean fewer cuts for California, which has the most senior water rights, and more severe cuts for Arizona and Nevada. Conversely, California would be the state most affected by an overall cut, since it receives the largest share of water from the river due to its large population and agricultural regions. Serving 40M people, the Colorado River is in the midst of a 23-year drought. The U.S. Geological Survey estimates that its flows have dropped by 20% over the last century. |
