Biden seeks reelection

President Biden announced that he is officially running for reelection in 2024.

The announcement came on the four-year anniversary of Biden’s entry into the 2020 presidential race. In his video announcement, he said, “The question we’re facing is, whether in the years ahead, we have more freedom or less freedom. More rights or fewer…that’s why I’m running for reelection.” Biden’s declaration makes him the third Democrat to declare candidacy, following Marianne Williamson and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Republicans who have so far declared include Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, Asa Hutchinson, and former President Donald Trump.

At age 78, Biden became the oldest person to assume the presidency when he was elected in 2020. If reelected, he would be 86 years old at the conclusion of the second term. According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, President Biden’s public approval fell to 39% on April 20th, nearing the lowest level of his presidency.

Sudan lab seizure

The World Health Organization said there is a “high risk of biological hazard” at a lab in Sudan that was seized yesterday amid ongoing conflict between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces militia.

According to WHO officials, one of the warring parties took control of the National Public Health Laboratory and ejected the lab’s technicians. A range of hazardous and biological materials are reportedly stored in the lab, including polio, measles, and cholera pathogens, per the WHO. The lab–which also contains a blood bank–is near the center of Sudan’s capital Khartoum and lies just outside the area where Sudan’s military headquarters are located.

Yesterday’s lab seizure came on the first day of a 72-hour ceasefire that the Sudanese military and Rapid Support Forces agreed to begin at midnight local time on Monday. Over 500 people have died in the conflict since it began on April 15th, including one U.S. citizen.

New blue hole discovered

Scientists revealed the discovery of the world’s second-deepest blue hole in Chetumal Bay, off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico.

Dubbed Taam Ja’–which translates to “deep water” in Mayan–the sinkhole was originally discovered in 2021, but was documented recently in the scientific journal Frontiers In Marine Science. According to the contributing scientists, they conducted a study using scuba, echosounders, CTD profilers, and water sample collections to determine the hole’s maximum depth of 899 feet. Per the journal, the hole is “likely the deepest known blue hole in the region.”

Blue holes are underwater sinkholes that are believed to have formed during the latter ice ages around 11K years ago due to the erosion of limestone terrains. In terms of depth, Taam Ja’ is second only to one found in Sansha Yongle, China, which is 984 feet deep. The Great Blue Hole off the coast of Belize, by comparison, is 410 feet deep.

On track to Nasdaq...

Ever wanted to own a piece of a company before its planned Nasdaq listing?

Monogram is giving you that chance as they hope to reinvent the $19.4B joint replacement industry.

A bone to pick: Joint replacement technology has barely changed in 40 years. Surgeons still use hand saws and eyeball measurements to prepare bones for generic-sized implants. No wonder as many as 100K knee replacements fail each year.

A robot we kneed: Monogram is working towards launching the first active cutting robotic surgical assistant on the market to install their personalized, 3D-printed joint implants. In fact, founder Dr. Doug Unis used the tech to perform a demo knee replacement on a cadaver…from his computer over 1,700 miles away.

Invest in Monogram before their planned Nasdaq listing. The last day to fund your investment is 5/10.
