Russia claims attack on Putin

Russia accused Ukraine of trying to carry out drone strikes on the Kremlin overnight in an attempt to assassinate President Vladimir Putin.

In a statement, the Kremlin’s press service said that “the Kyiv regime attempted to carry out a strike on the Kremlin residence of the President of the Russian Federation with unmanned aerial vehicles” and called it “a planned terrorist act and an assassination attempt on the president.” The Kremlin also warned of possible retaliation, saying that Russia “reserves the right to take retaliatory measures wherever and whenever is deemed necessary.” Putin was reportedly not in the building at the time of the alleged attack, and no one was harmed.

A senior advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denied the accusation, which is the most serious that Moscow has leveled at Kyiv since the war began 14 months ago. In response, Kyiv accused Moscow of using the incident as a pretext for escalating attacks in Ukraine.

Child labor at McDonald’s

A Department of Labor investigation found over 300 minors unlawfully working at dozens of McDonald’s locations across several states in the U.S.

In a press release, the Labor Department said that it “found two 10-year-old workers at a Louisville McDonald’s restaurant among many violations of federal labor laws committed by three Kentucky McDonald’s franchise operators,” and named the three violating franchisees as Bauer Food LLC, Archways Richwood LLC, and Bell Restaurant Group I LLC. The companies operate a total of 62 locations across Kentucky, Indiana, Maryland, and Ohio. In total, they were ordered to pay almost $213K in fines in connection to unlawfully employing 305 children.

Several McDonald’s franchisees have violated child labor laws. The most recent instance was in February when the Labor Department fined a franchise operator of seven Pennsylvania locations for unlawfully allowing 14- and 15-year-olds to work at times and for hours not permitted by federal child labor law.

Serbian school shooting

At least eight students and one security guard lost their lives at a school in Serbia’s capital of Belgrade when a 13-year-old boy opened fire in what officials say was a pre-planned attack.

Police identified the suspect as Kosta Kecmanovic, who is alleged to have used his father’s lawfully-owned guns in the attack he planned a month in advance. Kecmanovic’s mother and father have since been arrested. President Aleksandar Vucic said yesterday was “one of the toughest days in Serbia’s modern history” and declared a national three-day mourning period starting tomorrow.

While Serbia ranks as the fifth-highest country in terms of gun ownership, mass shootings are rare. Serbians over 18 and with no history of crime can own firearms with a permit issued after police conduct a background check. Gun owners are required to pass a training course and a questionnaire on gun legislation, along with a mandatory medical exam that must be repeated every five years.

In a hospital far, far away: Surgeons were relying on manual saws and eyeball measurements to perform hundreds of knee replacement surgeries yearly. But Dr. Doug Unis saw a way to possibly improve that with surgical robots and 3D-printed custom implants. Today, he’s performed a remote demonstration surgery from New York City to Austin, Texas, using those tools.

The Empire Strikes…Nasdaq? With 100K failed joint replacements failing every year, Monogram is trying to solve a need for more precision and personalized knee replacements in a $19.4B market.

Invest in Monogram before their planned Nasdaq listing. The last day to fund your investment is 5/10.
