Top TipsOpenAI CEO testifiesSam Altman, the CEO of ChatGPT’s parent company OpenAI, testified before Congress at a Senate Judiciary subcommittee on privacy and technology on the need for regulation around artificial intelligence. During the hearing, Altman said that his “worst fears are that we cause significant–we, the field, the technology industry–cause significant harm to the world” which “could happen in a lot of different ways. He added that he believes if AI technology “goes wrong, it can go quite wrong” and that his company, OpenAI, wants to “work with the government to prevent that from happening.” Altman also said he expects AI technology to lead to job losses, but stated that he believes it will create “far greater jobs on the other side” if the government properly regulates it. Altman’s appearance comes after the viral success of ChatGPT, OpenAI’s flagship chatbot, sparked a virtual arms race over AI and raised concerns from some lawmakers about the risks that the technology poses. |

Hypersonic missile attackRussian forces launched a barrage of hypersonic missiles at Kyiv yesterday that were all shot down, according to claims from Ukrainian officials. The bombardment, which targeted other locations outside of Kyiv, included six Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. Per Ukrainian air force spokesman Yurii Ihnat, it is the most Kinzhals Russia has fired in a single attack in the war so far. Yesterday marks the first time Ukraine claimed that its air defense systems–newly deployed and received recently from the West–struck an entire volley of multiple Kinzhal missiles. Moscow has touted the Kinzhal as a next-generation hypersonic missile that is incapable of being intercepted, and the six Kinzhals were among 27 missiles Russia fired at Ukraine in a 24-hour period. While all the missiles were shot down, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that at least three people were injured from falling debris. |

Probe into Hunter BidenAttorneys for an IRS whistleblower who claims the Justice Department interfered with the criminal probe into Hunter Biden say the whistleblower and his team were removed from the investigation. In a letter sent to the House and Senate judiciary committees, the whistleblower’s attorneys Mark Lytle and Tristan Leavitt accused the government of unlawful retaliation and added the removal of him and his team from the federal investigation “was at the request of the Department of Justice.” Per Lytle and Leavitt, the whistleblower–reportedly an unnamed IRS criminal supervisory special agent–could shed light on how “preferential treatment and politics” have hindered the investigation. Biden, 53, is being investigated for allegedly not paying taxes on millions in largely foreign-sourced income. The investigation has also reportedly looked at whether Biden, 53, laundered money, violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and lied about his drug use on a firearm purchase form. So far, no charges have been filed. |
