Turkey backs Swedish NATO bid

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has agreed to support Sweden’s bid for NATO membership, according to a statement from NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

The announcement comes a year after Erdogan blocked Sweden’s bid to join the alliance, prompting NATO leaders to publicly and privately lobby the Turkish leader to admit them. Sweden and Finland both decided to relinquish their traditional stance of neutrality following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and asked to join the alliance in May of 2022. Finland was voted into NATO in March after lifting a three-year-long arms embargo on Turkey, while Sweden was not admitted due to Turkey’s accusations of the country harboring Kurdish militants.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was originally founded in 1949 and currently has 31 member countries. Member countries like Turkey have a veto over any new countries looking to join the alliance. Turkey and Hungary are currently the only two members yet to ratify Sweden’s membership application.

Meta hits a new milestone

Meta's new social media app Threads, which is meant to be a direct competitor of Twitter, surpassed 100M users yesterday morning, less than a week after the app was launched.

Web traffic to Twitter was down 5% for the first two full days that Threads was publicly available, according to the company Similarweb, which specializes in web analytics. The company added that Twitter web traffic was down 11% compared with the same days in 2022. As of December 2022, Twitter’s global audience accounted for over 368M monthly active users.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg noted that the app’s growth has been “mostly organic” so far. Threads’ recent growth makes it the fastest-growing app of all time. Previously, that title belonged to ChatGPT, the AI-powered chatbot from OpenAI. In January, ChatGPT was estimated to have reached 100M monthly active users two months after its launch.

India’s economic forecast

India’s economy is on track to surpass that of the United States and become the second-largest in the world behind China by the year 2075, according to a new forecast by Goldman Sachs Research.

The report comes less than three months after the United Nations confirmed that India’s population overtook China, making it the most populous country in the world with an estimated 1.425B people at the start of May. Per Goldman Sach’s report, the main drivers of the forecast are India’s burgeoning population, the country’s progress in innovation and technology, higher capital investments, and rising worker productivity.

As measured by GDP, India is currently world’s fifth-largest economy, behind the U.S., China, Japan, and Germany, respectively. Per Goldman Sachs’ report, the Asian nation is expected to reach a gross domestic product of $52.5T by 2075, which is $1T higher than America’s GDP level is expected to reach at that time.

‘Enough’ sleep VS GOOD sleep

Even if you sleep for 8 or more hours, you might not feel rested and alert if you don't get enough deep and REM sleep. Fortunately, there are well-researched compounds that can help you relax, lower your heart rate, and prepare you for rejuvenating sleep.

Two of these compounds are GABA and L-theanine. L-theanine is found in green tea – but not a stimulant – and increases alpha brain waves to calm your mind within 30 minutes. GABA is a neurotransmitter with relaxing effects associated with sleep. Combining these with ingredients like taurine, glycine, magnesium, and 5HTP creates Sleep Breakthrough, a comprehensive nutritional sleep support.

This week you can get a free bottle of magnesium and a pair of blue-blocking glasses worth over $90. Plus, as a Tip News reader, you get an extra 10% off, auto-applied at checkout.

Try Sleep Breakthrough and optimize your sleep naturally!
