Devon Archer testimony

Hunter Biden’s former business partner Devon Archer testified behind closed doors yesterday before the House Oversight Committee.

In a statement, committee chairman James Comer said that Archer’s testimony confirms that “Joe Biden was ‘the brand’ that his son sold around the world,” adding that President Biden “joined Hunter Biden’s dinners with his foreign business associates in person or by speakerphone over 20 times” during his time as vice president. Rep. Dan Goldman, who sat in on the interview, claimed there was a lack of evidence connecting the president to his son’s foreign dealings and that business was never discussed during the phone calls.

Archer’s testimony comes one week after Hunter Biden decided to plead not guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges following his plea deal that fell apart under scrutiny from a federal judge in Delaware. This weekend, the DOJ requested that Archer start his one-year prison sentence for his conviction of defrauding a Native American tribe.

Yellow trucking shuts down

The 99-year-old trucking and logistics company Yellow Corp. (formerly known as YRC Worldwide Inc.) halted operations and will lay off all 30K of its workers, according to notices it sent to its customers and employees.

The Teamsters, which represents Yellow’s 22K unionized workers, announced that they received notice confirming Yellow was ceasing operations and filing for bankruptcy. When the company does file, it will become the largest bankruptcy ever for a trucking firm. In 2020, the Treasury Department granted Yellow a $700M pandemic-era loan on national security grounds. In June, a congressional probe concluded that the Treasury and Defense Departments “made missteps” in this decision.

Yellow was one of the nation’s largest less-than-truckload carriers that handled pallet-sized shipments of freight, though it had recently seen a decline in its daily delivery volume. As of March, Yellow had $1.5B of outstanding debt. Over $729M of that was owed to the federal government.

‘Euphoria’ actor dies at 25

Angus Cloud, the actor best known for his role as Fezco “Fez” O’Neill on HBO’s Euphoria, died yesterday in Oakland, California at the age of 25.

The Oakland Fire Department said it responded to a medical emergency yesterday morning, and the patient was “already deceased.” Cloud’s cause of death has not yet been determined. In a statement released by his family, they said “Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence." His death comes one week after his father’s funeral.

Cloud made his acting debut on Euphoria in 2019, starring alongside Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi. He was hired for the role after he was spotted by the casting director while walking down the street in New York. Cloud most recently starred in the Ethan Berger drama The Line.
