Utah man killed in FBI raid

A Utah man accused of making threats against President Biden was shot and killed by FBI agents while serving a warrant, according to local authorities.

The man, Craig Deleeuw Robertson, was charged with three felony counts, including making interstate threats, making threats against the president and influencing, impeding and retaliating against federal law enforcement officers by threat. On Monday, Robertson allegedly made a threat referencing Biden's trip to Utah this week, saying he needed to prepare his camouflage and sniper rifle. Biden is scheduled to be in Utah ahead of attending a public event in Salt Lake City. The shooting incident is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division. No agents were injured.

Robertson was 74 and had a custom woodworking business. Robertson is also accused of making threats against Manhattan, New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg. According to two law enforcement sources, he was armed at the time of the shooting.

Wildfires in Maui

At least six people have died and dozens have been injured by wildfires sweeping the Hawaiian island of Maui, according to officials.

In a news conference, the mayor of the County of Maui, Richard Bissen Jr., shared that in response to the fires, the county has had 13 evacuations from different towns, 16 road closures, and opened five shelters. The Coast Guard has also rescued 14 people, who had fled into the ocean to escape the fire and smoky conditions in the town of Lahaina. The National Weather Service (NWS) said the fires started as a result of a mix of conditions, including dry vegetation and a combination of strong winds and low humidity from Hurricane Dora, which was passing to the south of the island.

Sylvia Luke, the acting governor, has signed an emergency proclamation to activate the National Guard to help respond to the fires. The Lahaina fire on Maui is one of at least seven ongoing in the state of Hawaii.

Robbie Robertson dies

Guitarist-songwriter-singer Robbie Robertson, who led the Canadian-American music group The Band, passed away yesterday at age 80, per an announcement from his management.

Robertson also served as the lead guitarist for Bob Dylan in the 1960s and 1970s. In addition to his work with The Band and Dylan, he was a composer, and he scored and sourced music for Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, and The Color of Money. Shortly before he died, Robertson finished his fourteenth film music project with collaborator Martin Scorsese, Killers of the Flower Moon, releasing October 20th.

In 1976, The Band bade farewell to live performing with “The Last Waltz” concert on Thanksgiving night. Guests including Dylan, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Van Morrison, Neil Young, and Joni Mitchell joined the group at San Francisco’s Winterland. The concert film, directed by Martin Scorsese, was released in 1978 along with a three-record box. In 1994, The Band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
