Attendees stranded at Burning Man

Burning Man's estimated 70K-plus attendees were isolated at the venue known as Black Rock City as rain-closed roads and muddied campgrounds.

Attendees were told to shelter in place in the Black Rock Desert and conserve food, water, and fuel after a rainstorm hit the area, forcing officials to halt any entering or leaving of the festival. More than half an inch of rain fell this weekend in parts of northwest Nevada, which includes the area where the Burning Man festival was being held. One death was reported during the event, but officials confirmed the fatality was unrelated to the weather. The organizers planned an orderly exit yesterday, the event's last day, and have so far turned down help from the Nevada National Guard.

The annual festival was founded in June 1986 and was first held in Nevada's Black Rock Desert in 1990. It attracts nearly 80K artists, musicians, and activists for a mix of wilderness camping and avant-garde performances.

NASA Space X mission returns

NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 landed in the sea off Jacksonville, Florida yesterday, ending their mission after six months at the International Space Station (ISS).

The crew undocked from the space station early Sunday to begin the trip home. Crew-6 was made up of NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen and Woody Hoburg, UAE astronaut Sultan Alneyadi, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev. They completed the agency’s sixth commercial crew rotation mission to the ISS, spending 186 days in orbit. During their stint in space, the Crew-6 astronauts were slated to oversee more than 200 science and tech projects, as well as host the Axiom Mission 2 crew. They also conducted a total of three spacewalks.

To date, SpaceX has flown 11 human spaceflight missions. Eight of those missions have been contracted with NASA's Commercial Crew Program, while the other three flew private astronauts. This marked the fourth trip to space and back for the Dragon Endeavour.

Jimmy Buffett dies at 76

Jimmy Buffett, a singer and entrepreneur best known for his song “Margaritaville,” which kicked off a themed restaurant chain and hotels, has died at age 76.

Buffett died after a four-year battle with Merkel cell cancer, according to a statement posted on his official website. He achieved mainstream success following the release of his sixth album, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes, which included “Margaritaville.” Buffett’s other popular songs include “It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere,” “Come Monday,” “Volcano” and “It’s My Job.” He later expanded his brand into enterprises outside of music. He came out with several books, beach-themed clothing, a Margaritaville restaurant chain, hotels, resorts, retirement communities, and more.

Over his 50-year-plus career, Buffett has released 36 albums and has headlined more than 40 concert tours. He had 13 songs reach the Billboard Hot 100 list, including “Margaritaville” making it to the Top 10.
