Your Daily Brief

September 7th, 2023

Good morning, and happy Thursday! Reza Ray Baluchi from Florida was arrested by the U.S. Coast Guard while allegedly attempting to run across the Atlantic Ocean to London in a makeshift human-sized hamster wheel, also known as a Hydro Pod vessel, this week. This is his second attempt to cross the Atlantic in such a contraption and all we can say is better luck next time! There are certainly easier, albeit less creative, ways to make it across the pond.

In Today’s Brief

  • Texas: To remove floating bouys
  • Ava DuVernay: Makes film history

Potential Hunter Biden indictment

Federal prosecutors plan to seek a grand jury indictment of Hunter Biden before the end of the month, according to court documents filed yesterday.

The filing came in a gun possession case in which Hunter Biden was accused of having a firearm while using drugs. Prosecutors under U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss, recently named a special counsel in the case, said they expect an indictment before September 29th. The president's son had previously reached a deal involving the gun possession charge that would have allowed him to avoid prosecution if he met certain conditions. However, after his plea deal to resolve two tax charges fell apart in court, the future of the gun deal has been unclear.

Last month, a federal appeals court in Louisiana ruled against the ban on gun possession by drug users, citing a 2022 gun ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court, potentially making a new gun possession charge open to challenges.

Russian missile hits Ukrainian market

A Russian missile hit a market in eastern Ukraine yesterday, killing at least 17 people in one of the deadliest attacks in months, according to officials.

The attack on the industrial eastern city of Kostiantynivka injured at least 32 people. 20 shops, power lines, an administrative building, and the floor of an apartment building were damaged, according to the Ukraine prosecutor general’s office. The deadly attack came as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Kyiv and was expected to announce more than $1B in new American funding for Ukraine in the 18-month-old war. Blinken’s visit was aimed at assessing Ukraine’s three-month-old counteroffensive and signaling continued U.S. support, according to U.S. officials.

Kostiantynivka is close to the front lines in the east, where Ukrainian forces have been battling to push Russian forces back in the Donetsk region around Bakhmut. The city has been hit on at least three other occasions so far this year as a result.

Scientists grow a human embryo

Scientists have grown a model that closely resembles an early human embryo, without using sperm, eggs, or a womb.

A team from the Weizmann Institute, located in Israel, says their "embryo model", made using stem cells, looks like a “textbook example” of a real 14-day-old embryo. The researchers used chemical additives to coax the stem cells into forming the tissue in embryos, placentas, and other living structures. Scientists combined 120 of these cells in a precise ratio and mixed them together. The embryo models were then allowed to grow and develop until they were comparable to an embryo 14 days after fertilization. In many countries, this is the cut-off for normal embryo research.

The scientists claim that the research could shed light on some of the health issues that occur during the first few weeks of fetal development, such as miscarriage and birth defects, as well as aid in pharmaceutical research and the effect certain drugs can have on a developing fetus.

Let food be thy medicine

Throughout history, civilizations such as ancient Egypt, China, India, the Mayan and Aztec empires, have all recognized the power of food as medicine.

Our relationship with food is sacred and intimate, from planting seeds to consuming plants' energy. Food has the ability to change our mood, bring people together, and heal.

The famous quote, "Let food be thy medicine, and medicine thy food," spoken by Hippocrates, emphasizes the importance of combining the right foods with medicinal herbs for a healthy life.

However, we have forgotten this truth and turned to mass-produced, artificial, and nutrient-depleted foods. As a result, people are becoming sick. To achieve good health, we must consume nutrient-dense, mineral-rich, consciously-created food.

It's time to remember and embrace this ancient wisdom. A new docuseries called Healing Kitchen: Let Food Be Thy Medicine explores the power of medicinal foods in preventing and healing disease.

This transformative series offers powerful recipes and ancient remedies to create a kitchen that promotes natural wellness and nourishment. Watch the trailer HERE!
