Top TipsTwo Swedes shot in BrusselsTwo Swedish nationals were fatally shot in Brussels yesterday and another person was wounded in an attack that is being investigated as apparent terrorism. Belgian authorities have raised the terror alert to the highest level in the capital and the second-highest level across the rest of the nation. According to Belgian officials, the assailant had posted on social media that he was inspired by the Islamic State militant group and the Swedish nationality of the victims was the probable motive for the shooting. Per several media reports, the attacker drove up to the victims on a scooter and opened fire before driving away. Apart from the two Swedes who were killed, a local taxi driver was injured. In response to the attack, authorities shut down a Belgium-Sweden soccer match that was being hosted at a stadium not far from the shooting. 35K fans were held inside for several hours as a precaution before being evacuated as the manhunt continued. |

2028 Olympics gets 5 new sportsThe 141st International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that five new games will be added to the Olympic program for the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles. Baseball and softball, flag football, cricket, lacrosse, and squash were all approved in an IOC vote yesterday. Recent IOC reforms allow Olympic hosts to propose adding sports solely for their edition of the Games. In a statement made yesterday, the IOC president said “The choice of these five new sports is in line with the American sports culture and will showcase iconic American sports to the world while bringing international sports to the United States.” Flag football and squash will be making their Olympic debut. Baseball and softball were part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics before taking a break in 2024. Lacrosse last appeared in the 1908 London Olympics, while cricket was last on the Olympic program for the 1900 Games in Paris. |
