Lottery ticket in Illinois wins the Mega Millions Jackpot prize of $1.337 billion

A ticket purchased in a Speedway gas station in Des Plaines, Illinois won the Mega Millions jackpot prize of $1.337 billion, according to lottery officials.

The prize marks the third-largest prize in the history of the lottery. Per lottery officials, the winner can either receive $780.5 million as a cash lump sum or elect to receive annuity payments over the next 30 years. Should the winner choose the lump sum, they are subject to a mandatory 24% federal tax withholding, and if they live in Illinois, the winnings will also be considered taxable income at the state’s 4.95% rate.

Mega Millions said in a statement that the jackpot “had been rolling since it was last won at $20 million in Tennessee on April 15,” and director of the Illinois Department of the Lottery Harold Mays said at a news conference that no one has yet to claim the jackpot prize as of Saturday night.

President Biden tests positive for Covid-19 again and reenters quarantine

Per a letter from White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor, President Biden has tested positive for Covid-19 again and reentered quarantine over the weekend.

Dr. O’Connor wrote in the first of two memos over the weekend that the President “has experienced no new emergence of symptoms” after testing positive on Saturday. In the memo, O’Connor also acknowledged the potential for “rebound” Covid positivity seen in a small percentage of patients treated with Paxlovid, the antiviral treatment from Pfizer given to President Biden after he first tested positive on July 21st. At that time, the President was experiencing symptoms such as sore throat, runny nose, cough, body aches, and fatigue.

In a second letter published yesterday, Dr. O’Connor wrote that the President “continues to feel well” after his rebound positivity, and added that he will “continue his strict isolation measures” while conducting business from the Executive Residence.
