Top TipsDomestic flights groundedEvery departing domestic flight within the United States was grounded yesterday due to a technical outage in the Federal Aviation Administration’s computer system. In a tweet, the FAA attributed the cause of the nationwide grounding to an “overnight outage to the Notice to Air Missions system,” which alerts pilots and flight crews of potential hazards along a flight route. The FAA then added that the ground stop was lifted at around 9:00 AM ET, and flights would resume taking off again from that point forward. Online flight trackers showed that over 7.6K flights within, into, or out of the United States were delayed as of yesterday afternoon. More than 1.1K flights were canceled. The disruptions come two weeks after a winter weather event led to mass cancellations and delays from nearly every airline in the United States. |

Touchscreens in MacsApple has teams of engineers working on touchscreen Macs and could release a new MacBook Pro with touchscreen capabilities as soon as 2025, according to a report from Bloomberg. The report says that Apple’s engineers are “actively engaged” in the project, though stated that a launch “hasn’t been finalized” and that the company’s plans could change. It also notes that the screens on new MacBooks may use OLED technology, as opposed to the Mini LED displays currently in the 14 and 16-inch models. Other than the iPhone and iPad–which rely on touchscreens for use–Apple has avoided adding touchscreens to its devices. When announcing the iPad in 2010, then-CEO Steve Jobs described computers with touchscreens as “ergonomically terrible.” Instead of adding touchscreens to its laptops, Apple implemented a touch bar for Macs from 2016 until 2021. That year, the company began phasing it out with the release of redesigned 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros. |

Jeff Beck passes at 78English guitarist Jeff Beck of The Yardbirds & The Jeff Beck Group passed away at 78 after “suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis,” according to a statement released on behalf of his family. Born in England in 1944, Beck joined the Yardbirds in 1965 following Eric Clapton’s departure on the recommendation of another local guitarist, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. He played on the Yardbirds’ 1965 album For Your Love and also recorded on “Shapes of Things,” which appears on the group’s 1966 self-titled LP. After his stint in the Yardbirds, Beck went on to form the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood. Beck’s releases spanned the genres of blues rock, jazz fusion, and electronica. He received eight Grammy’s during his career and was twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: once as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992 and a second time as a solo artist in 2009. |
