Buffalo supermarket shooter sentenced

Payton Gendron, the gunman who carried out a racially-motivated mass shooting at a Buffalo supermarket last year, has been sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole.

Gendron, now 19, killed 10 people with an assault weapon at the Tops Friendly Market on May 14th, 2022, and live-streamed the attack on social media. During the sentencing hearing, Gendron said, “I’m very sorry for all the pain I forced the victims and their families to suffer through.” He then addressed the families of the victims present in the courtroom, saying, “I’m very sorry for stealing the lives of your loved ones. I cannot express how much I regret all the decisions I made leading up to my actions.”

While New York state does not employ the death penalty, Gendron is due in federal court today for a status update in a separate case that could carry a death sentence if prosecutors seek it.

Tesla opens up Superchargers

The Biden administration yesterday confirmed that electric vehicle maker Tesla will open up some of its chargers to rival companies’ vehicles and trucks.

According to a statement from the White House, Tesla agreed to make at least 7.5K of its publicly accessible chargers in the U.S. available for use by any compatible electric vehicle by the end of 2024. That number of Tesla’s chargers will include at least 3.5K of the company’s 250-kilowatt Superchargers located along highway corridors, as well as the slower-charging Level 2 destination charging stations that the automaker provides at partner locations like hotels and restaurants.

Tesla’s agreement with the White House marks the first time that the company will make its chargers available for other non-Tesla EVs to use. The upgrades will allow Tesla to qualify for federal subsidies under the Biden administration’s plan to build a national network of 500K EV chargers.

Rescued Thai soccer captain dies

One of the 12 members of the boys' soccer team who was rescued with 11 others after two weeks trapped in a flooded cave in Thailand in 2018 passed away in England at age 17.

Duangpetch Promthep–whom his teammates called “Dom”–lost his life on Tuesday after he was found unconscious in his dorm in Leicestershire on Sunday and transported to the hospital, according to one of his former teachers. Promthep was captain of the Thai Wild Boars team, which was trapped inside the Tham Luang Nang Non cave for over two weeks while exploring the country’s northern Chiang Rai province. Last year, he earned a scholarship to attend the UK’s Brooke House College Football Academy.

In a tweet, the British Ambassador to Thailand, Mark Gooding, offered his “condolences to Dom's family and friends.” As of this writing, the cause of Promthep’s death is not yet known.

The Police were right

Sting may have been singing to ‘Roxanne’ back in 1981, but in 2023, we all could benefit if we “Put on the red light.”

Two different waveforms called red light and near-infrared light are both healing to the body. One is absorbed by surface tissues and cells, leading to optimized skin health, while the other (near-infrared) is invisible to the human eye, yet penetrates deeper into tissues for recovery and inflammation support.

Get the benefits of both with Joovv’s patented, medical-grade red light therapy device. Tip News readers get a big $50 savings by using code “Tip” at checkout.
